SAVED DESPITE HIMSELF.

A CONSTABLE'S PROMPTITUDE.

Telegraph.—Press Association

DUNEDIN, May 7

Christopher Robinson, aged 28, carrier, when on the point of arrest by Constable Harvey at Warepa yesterday on a charge of forging a £40 cheque, swallowed the contents of a bottle of poison.

The constable hastily bundled the man into a trap, drove at a mad gallop to the nearest farmhouse (a mile distant), forced emetics upon the prisoner, and kept this going till a doctor arrived.

The doctor said that the prompt action of the constable had saved the man's life.
