WASHINGTON, April 8. The Senate's Inter-ocean Canals Committee has decided to give a fortnight, for the hearing of the pros and cons of .the Panama Tolls measure. N The Senate meanwhile is likely to debate the numerous Bills introduced on the subject, ranging from the total rejection,of the Repeal Bill to allowing the President to exercise the veto of the exemptive clause whenever it is thought desirable to do so in the country's interests. The United States has signed a treaty with Colombia, permanently settling the Panama, controversy. '-,-■/
The United States agrees to pay Colombia five million pounds for the acquisition of the, canal zone, mid Colombia binds herself to refuse any concessions for a new canal or coaling privileges on the islands off the Colombian coast.
Colombia has relinquished her demand for free passage of her Vessels through the canal in view of President Wilson's decision to repeal the exemption clause of the Panama Tolls Bill.
