NEW ARBITRATION BILL.
CONDEMNED BY LABOUR UNION.
AUCKLAND, Oct. 7.
The Arbitration Act Amendment Bill is meeting with widespread opposition from Trades Unions.
The Auckland Waterside Workers' Union has written to Mr Myers, M.P., asking him, on behalf of 1100 members of that body, to convey to Parliament their conviction that the Bill is the most harassing and reactionary measure devised in any civilised country outside Russia for many years, and express their opinion that "this attempt to revert to the coercive methods in vogue against workers in medieval times emanated from the organised employers of this country and their officials."
The opinion is expressed that "if the complete humiliation of organised labour in New Zealand is arrivel at by the promoters this inquiry will be defeated in practice, and that the Bill if passed must inevitably result in chaos."
