The lack of employment in Wanganui is still acutely felt in labour 1 circles, and though no cases of distress have been reported, relief of the present protracted situation is long in coming. The Labour Department states that little improvement in the position has been observed during the past week or so, although there was every prospect of more employment being available in the town before long. One influential contractor who was approached said that the number of seekers for work that he had to turn away in the course of a week was pitiful He sympathetically said that he wished he had a great job in hand, so that he might be in a position to employ all the applicants.
