TIGHTENING THE QUARANTINE.
SYDNEY A PLACE OF ISOLATION,
(By Telegranh-Press Assn.-Copyright}
SYDNEY, Oct. 3. Four fresh cases of smallpox were reported to-day. Instead of relaxing, the Federal authorities are tightening the quarantine -upon Sydney. Nobody except one who has been successfully vaccinated or is a lunatic can now leave the city. Persons immune to vaccination must remain in Sydney until the Commonwealth authorities release the city. The "Sun" states that a woman from New Zealand possessing only a little means and running near the end thereof sought the other day to return home and being in an advanced condition of heart disease was unfit for vaccination. The New South Wales health officers certified to that effect but the Commonwealth authorities refused her clearance and she is compelled to stay in a cheap lodginghouse.
