In and about London the pen of the Hon. W. P. Reeves, ex-High Commissioner for New Zealand, is still busy on various topics. One of his recent essays was "A Plea for a Civilised Epirus," published as a pamphlet by the Aegean Islands Committee. "After a tough winter campaign, the Greek forces have put an end to Turkish rule* in Epirus,'' the paper begins, and the writer presents a strong case for the conquerors who have re-occupied territory held by their ancestors. The conclusion is a summary of the treatise thus:—"A mountainous land, with a >hot sun and ample rainfall, Epirus has a dozen climates and can grow anything from barley, potatoes, and apples to citrons, olives, cotton, rice and tobacco. Under the Turks, Epirus has been a good country to emigrate from. Given peace and an intelligent Government (Greek), it
might be as prosperous as it is beautiful."
