A BENEVOLENT RUFFIAN
DEATH OF GEORGIA BELL.
TRAIN-ROBBER AND GAOL-
BREAKER. /<T)
(By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright)
VANCOUVER, Sept. 5
The death has occurred in prison of Georgia Bell, miner, and the most notorious train-robber and gaolbreaker in North America. For fifty years he was engaged in robbing trains. He was frequently captured and imprisoned for life, but managed to escape.
Many years ago he took part in
Australian rushes, and was prominent around Coolgardie. He afterwards engaged in the slave trade in Turkey, but he was never guilty of violence, even when he could thus gain his freedom, and is known to have done many acts of benevolence. He was well educated. Often he was reported to be dead and read his obituary notices in the newspapers with great amusement.
