PUNITIVE EXPEDITION.
NATIVE VILLAGES BURNED. HOUSES PILLAGED, PROPERTY CONFISCATED. SYDNEY, Sept. 5. According to a letter received from a trader inNNcrw r Hebrides, an expedition from the French warship sent to Epi to punish the natives concerned in the recent murder of a French planter, seized and bound the natives of three villages, raided the houses and confiscated the property found therein.
The natives were kept aboard the warship till the actual murderers, who belonged to another village, were handed over.
Only a portion of the confiscated property was returned.
