THE EPIDEMIC.
FIVE FRESH CASES AT KAIKOHE
WELLINGTON, Sept. 3.
To-day's official smallpox bulletin states that there is nothing fresh from Auckland. One woman and two children were admitted to the Kaikohe hospital on Saturday and two adult males on Sunday.
Another case of infantile chickenpox has been reported in a Norfolk Street house previously under isolation.
Mr P. Mander (Marsden), in the House yesterday, gave notice to ask the Minister for Health whether it is the intention of the Health Department to relax the restrictions on people travelling from Whangarei, as only one case of smallpox occurred in the borough and that two months ago. If, he urged, the Department would locate an officer of the Department at Whangarei to act in conunction with the police, the interests of the public could then be adequately safeguarded without causing unnecessary inconvenience.
Dr. Frazer-Hurst, on being asked by an "Advocate" reporter this morning, said there were now less than a dozen reported cases in the county, only one of these being in the isolation ward at the hospital
The health authority received notification this morning that a European at Parua Bay had contracted the disease.
