COMMISSIONER'S REPORT
GREAT SAVING TO BE EFFECTED
Economies, expected to be worth £47,000 per annum, are detailed in the first report of the Public Service Commissioners presented to Parliament yesterday. They quote instances of out-of-date methods, and an enormous wastage through over-lap-ping of duties and useless red tapeism. The reorganisation of the Treasury Department will save £11,000, while the prevention of needless duplication of accounts will save salaries aggregating £5000. The officers thus deprived of work will find places elsewhere in the service, performing useful duties. Two thousand pounds per annum will be sayed by the use of typewriters for preparing deeds, and the increased efficiency in the Agricultural Department will be worth £5000 per annum.
