DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.
DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £30,000
BRISBANE, Sept. 1.
One of the most destructive fires that have occurred for several years almost totally destroyed Racjmond's timber yard and/ sawmill at Newstead.
A large quantity of valuable machinery and over a million and a-quar-ter feet of pine and a 5-aantity of hardwood were destroyed.
The origin of the fire is unknown. It burned fiercely for several hours. The damage is estimated at nearly £30,000. The insurances are £7000.
Seventy men have been idled. The firemen had difficulty in preventing the fire spreading to the large gasometer of the Brisbane Gas Company.
