HAWKER AWARDED £1000.
1040 MILES IN 1260 MINUTES. The "Daily Mail" has awarded Hawker £1000. Hawker covered 1043 miles in 1260 minutes.. The accident to Hawker's machine occurred through his pressing his foot on the rudder valve. His boot was oily and slipped.
The hydro-aeroplane test in which Hawker was a competitor was promoted by the "Daily Mail" for a prize of. £5000. It was an "All-British" competition. The course started at Netley, near Southampton, and covered a distance of 1600 miles, which had to be completed within 72 hours, not including compulsory halts of haVf-an-hour each at Ramsgate, Yarmouth, Scarborough, Aberdeen, Cromarty, Oban, Dutolin, and Falmouth. Hawker, whose machine has come to gri£f, started out on Monday morning. The cables have traced his course daily.
