Mr W. F. Thompson, Government land valuer, will commence a revaluation of Whangarei County next week.
Captain Maxwell, marine superintendent, for the Shaw Saville Shipping Company, arrived :n Whangarei by the Mauaia this morning.
Mr D. Pretty, who holds the Australasian chopping record, arrived in Whangarei this morning. He will compete at the Kawakawa Axeman's Carnival on Monday next.
Messrs A. Jack, Winter, Reeve, Drummond, Carlton, Ogilvie, Ryan and Taylor left by the Manaia to-day to compete at the Ngaruawahia Regatta on Monday. They will represent Whangarei Rowing Club in the heavy weight juniors, pair oar, maiden and junior double sculls, and youths and country club fours.
The members of the Whangarei A and P. Association assembled in the County Council Chambers this afternoon to bid bon voyage to Mr M. H. Hutchinson, on the eve of his departure on a trip to England. The Mayor Mr Steadman, on behalf of members, presented Mr Hutchinson with a handsome travelling rug and carrier, and Mrs Hutchinson with a silver-mounted handbag. Several toasts were honored.
