Shippers of grapes rrom to Dune-din have to face a-loss. Large' ccnsiginmtnts have been coming to hand these last two weeks, and the fruit is not in a condition to command full values. Grapes that, at their best, are worth 3d per pound in Adelaide, have been sold in Dunedin at as low as 2d and 3d. This represents a loss of 5s per case. Locally grown grapes bring from 6V 2 d to Bd.

The official returns have been received from the Government herd test at the Kaupokonui factory for the month of December. There are 227 suppliers to the Kaupokonui factory, and of these 85 belong to the Herdtesting Association, or, more correctly, there are S5 herds being regularly tested by the Government official there. These 85 herds comprise 3739 cows. The average per cow of all these for the month of December was as follows:—Milk 941bs, test 3.79, but-ter-fat 35.75. The individual cow showing the best result, gave 14101b of milk at a 5.6 test, producing 78.901b of butter-fat. At Is per lb for butterfat this cow earned for the month £3 19s. The poorest of the 3739 cows tested gave 2Sslb of milk, 2 G test, and 7.41b of butter-fat. She earned, therefore, only 7s Gd. Th.c highest average for one herd was 11251b of milk per cow, 4.7 test, and 52.931b but-ter-fat. This works out at £2 13s per cow for the month. The lowest herd averaged per cow 8191b milk, 3.30 test, 20.251b of butter-fat, equalling CI Gs per head.
