ROTOITI FOR WHANGAREI.
TO REPLACE NGAPUHI.
NORTHERN COMPANY'S INTENTIONS.
(Special Correspondent.) AUCKLAND, June 5. As indicated some time ago, the Northern Steamship Company has •under consideration some important Changes concerning both the East Go-Ssi and West Coast trades. It was then stated that the s.s. Barawa, the largest boat in the company's service, would probably take up the Whangarei run, and that fresn arrangements would be made, for the Onehunga-New Plymouth trade.. It is now understood that the directors are so impressed with the posjjibilities of the, Whangarei service that they have decided to acquire from the Union Steam Ship Company the, fine steamer Rotoiti, which has even greater facilities for passengers than the Barawa, and would be capable of fully meeting all the requirements of the Whangarei service. . The Rotoiti was built at, Dumbarton In 1898, has a gross tonnage of 1159, and net 630, Is 220 ft long, 33ft in breadth, and draws 13.2. If the Rotoiti enters the East Coast trade, the Rarawa will probably be maintained on the West Coast run.
