CO-OPERATIVE DAIRY COMPANY

A very representative meetng of the members of ihe Waipu Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., was held the other evening, -when in the absence of Mr J. A. Finlayson (chairman), MiAngus McLennan was voted to the chair and explained that the meeting had been called to amend one of the articles of association, which deals with the voting powers of members by giving one vote to every member for every ten shares held by them up to 4 votes, provided that any member with less than 10 shares should have a vote so long as th« bond or guarantee held with the bank for the advancement of an overdraft was in force; ,but now, as it is intended to cancel these documents, those with less than ten shares would have no vote, so notice of motion had been given that a voce be had for every ten shares or part thereof, irrespective of the number held, but after a good deal of dliscussion and several amendments the article was made to read to provide for one vote for any number of shares up to ten shares, and an additional vote for every additional tea shares held over the first ten. Amotion (of which notice had been given) was that the company register under Part 111. of the Dairy Industries Act, 1908. The directors had been requested to negotiate with the Waipu Farmers' Company (originally formed for the purpose of burning lime) with a view to the amalgamation of the two companies, as it was thought advisable to procure a plant for crushing lime, which is believed to be equally effective and much cheaper to use than burnt lime, and the latter company are not in a financial position tc procure the necessary plant. A communicaton was read from the Whangarei County Council asking if 'he closing of the local shops at 6 p.m. would be beneficial or detrimental to the settlers hera, and it was agreed to point out that it would be detrimental and to enter a protest against it. CORONATION HALL' BAZAAR. A meeting if the ladies was held in the Hall on Ist June to consider the question of starting a bazaar, to be held about New Year, to raise funds to help pay off the debt on the new Coronation Hall, but owing to the inclemency of the weather only 14- or 15 were present.
