STRUGGLE FOR THE SHIELD.
WHANGAREI ONE POINT AHEAD

GISBORNE, Feb. 16. The Whangarei Municipal Band has gained in music for the shield. The Band is now one point leading for the shield, and only 1 2-5 point behind for the cash prize. The Test Selection to-night will be the deciding issue, and Whangarei is practically certain to get at least second • Waihi is leading for the A Grade shield. Additional results yesterday were follows: — Quickstep.—A Grade: Palmerston North (251) 1, Waihi (240%) 2, Westport (226 1 /4) :'.. B. Grade: Wanganui City (236) 1, Gisborne (229) 2, Whangarei (225) 3. Trombone Trio.—Westport (49) 1. Wanganui City (48) 2, Waihi (46) 3. Quartettes. —Wanganui City (4S) 1, •Jisborne (47) 2, Gisborn.? No. 2 (46) 3. Amongst the other competitors were Waihi No. 1 (16) and Waihi No. 2 (43).
