A- new platform is to be constructed at the Auckland railway station between the platforms already* in existence. The work commenced yesterday, when si gang of men were engaged in taking- up the sidings to make room for the platform. The new platform will be J 3 feet wide and 500 feet Iqng, and will be covered in. Trains will draw up either side of it, so that when the work is completed there will be- sufficient platforms to deal with five trains at a time.
