Miss Emma Hall is the founder, owner, and promoter of the "Suffragette retreat," at Kansas City, U.S.A. The retreat is a farm, and is guaranteed man proof. "I am just on the way to take possession," Miss Hall said to an interviewer. "This idea of mine is bound to be a success, don't you think so? You see, there are a lot of women who could really do things worth while write books, plays and. the like, if they only were away from the patronage of men. "I mean to make my farm into a suffragette city. Only women will be allowed on the place, and they must do all of the work. Every woman must work at least half the day. She will wear overalls, must have her hair cut short like mine, and must furnish a bond of 1000 dollars when she enters that she will not leave in less than a year. "We'll show the country there is no such thing as man's work," Miss Hall said as she leaned back in her seat and smiled defiance. "The retreat already is? the bonde home of seven women. As scon as the work gets well under way there will be at least a hundred women j on the farm." j "What will be the distribution of work?" she was asked. "The working plan will be changed every month. One woman will do all the milking, another the necessary clerical work. A month later new lots will be drawn."

"This talk about workwomen is all rot," Miss Hall replied. "In two months everyone on the place will be able to. cut wood, plough and swear. I j-m going to suggest that they cultivate the use of the word damn.

' "I believe that some expletive \vhile doing heavy work is almost necessary as a safety valve, and I do not propose to have the atmosphere and the local color ruined by. such terms as 'fudge' and 'Oh, sugar.' "
