A PRACTICAL JOKE.

Mr Oliver Locker-Lampson, M.P., has been the victim of a practical joke played by a Mr Horace de Vere Cole, who, it is understood, is the masquerade!* that was received publicly by the Mayor of Cambridge in the guise of the Sultan of Zanzibar, and was one of the celebrated "Abyssinian Princes." A policeman stated ha saw Mr Cole lunmng after another gentleman shouting "Stop, thief!" When Mr LockerLampson was stopped Mr Cole took a gold watch out of the lattor's overcoat pocket. Mr Cole afterwards explained that the whole thing was a practical joke. The two gentlemen wore afterwards charged with "using insulting words and behavior." The

story came out, however, and, of course, the proceedings against the iM.P. were stopped. Mr Cole, who has been bound over in £5 to be of good behaviour,' has stated that he played the trick to get Mr Locker-Lampson arrested by the police. He has apologised to the gentleman for the unexpected publicity given to the joke.
