FOR AN EXECUtION.
This morliing at sunrise (writes the Paris correspondent of the "Dailj Mail" on \ January 11th) Antoine Favier, the young wine merchant who murdered anfd robbed a bank messenger in his owfi house, was guillotined at Lille. In sbch execration was the murderer held\in the town that on the eve of the execution the city wore quite a festive alspect. trance fee. j The doomed/ man was awakened by the noise of tine crowd during the night, but wejnt to sleep on the warders mercifulljjy assuring him that the din was due/ to the arrest of some criminals. At six o'clock the Public Prosecutor Awoke him with the news that he hafl to die. Favier did not move a .muscle. He merely said gently to ihe warders. 'You knew yesterday/and never told me!" Then he calmlyl gave some directions about his papejrs and heard Mass. The /guillotine being just outside the prison gates, the doomed man came iri sight of it immediately on emerginfg from the prison. He did not flinch for a moment. He looked at the crowds on the housetops, at the immobile lines of police, at the little group off reporters and persons with fcpecial "permits," among whom were the father and brother of the victim, and then'< of his own accord stretched liimself an the plank. Deibler touched the catchXand justice was done.
