ENTERTAINMENTS.

FRED FOLEY'S PICTURES

Fred Foley created quite a furore on Wednesday night with his highclass entertainment, which allured quite a large audience to the Theatre Royal and captivated them while they were there. The pictures shown were the subject of unusually favorable comment, their steadiness, clearness, and intensely interesting character occasioning a general verdict that nothing better had been exhibited in Whangarei. The life of Napoleon was a marvel of historic exactitude, and lasted for about three-quarters of an hour without the slightest hitch or pause. Its actuality was so telling that the audience were lost to their actual surroundings and transported to another age. Several humorous pictures gave the necessary leaven of amusing variety to the kinematograph section of the entertainment, and a couple of illustrated songs also added to the pleasure of the evening.

In ventroquialism and legerdemain Fred Foley would take a power of beating. The expert manner in which he mystified the public by his sleight-of-hand work, and the wonderful use to which he put his voice, were revelations of how far human powers may be developed. Altogether it was a pleasing show, and everybody was entirely satisfied.

The company will appear at Hikurangi next Saturday night and at Kawakawa on the following Saturday.
