Many pleasure seekers availed themselves of the opportunity afforded ihe.m at yesterday's regatta, of obtaining an afternoon's leisure relieved by interesting sport and the seats provided by the Club were fully occupied, throughout. At the commencement of the races the tide was only half-full and the races were rowed against a •strong ebbing current, but this fad did not seriously impair the actual racing, and two or three very good ■finishes were witnessed.
The handicap pair oar races, the first of the class hold by the Club, resulted as fol-low-—First : heat: R. H. Allan f stroke) and W. James (3secs) beat F. Swanberg (stroke and W. M. Johnston and J. Grimshaw (4secs) easily by five lengths. In the semifinal F. Reynolds and H. Haynes (scr) beat R. H. Allan and W. James by three-quarters of a length, after a de-. termined race. The final race was a gruelling one between the two scratch crews, and was won by F. Reynolds (stroke) and H. Haynes from A. Jack and H. Condon by a canvas. There were two ladies races in vhich Misses A. and K. Ventry-Smitr vanquished first Misses V. Calkin and G. Hickey and then Misses Calkin and M. Hickey. Johnston, who had the catering in their charge, and to the ladies who assisted them.
