PHOTOGRAPHIC PIRATES.
J A petition has been presented to the I House bearing the names of thirty- ; seven photographers, who express the I conviction that unless steps are taken to prevent the copying and piracy of ! their photographic works they will be | seriously affected. The potitoners I point out that there are numbers of i firms, many of them foreign, which I make a speciality of copying and re- ; producing the artistic work of photo- | graphers of New Zealand. From data | the petitioners have gathered, they : are of opinion that not less than £20,I 000 worth of orders are obtained every | year by the pirates. Petitioners as!: : that an Act should be passed grantj Ing to the author or producer of any photograph the copyright during his I lifetime and for thirty years after his j death.
