CONFERENCE AT PALMERSTON
NORTH
FORMATION DECIDED ON.
Palmerston North, June 25. The conference of Chambers of Commerce delegates, called for the purpose of forming a North Island Railway League, met yesterday. There was a representative attendance. The fOl'Hoiwimg resolution met with unanimous approval, and Was carried: — "That a North Island Railway League be formed, constituted of delegates from the North Island Chambers of Commerce, with the object of obtaining a fair distribution of railway expenditure, as between the _Tort_ and South Islands, and with the object of inquiring into the systems of differentiial Ireiigibts frnd rates, as between the North and South Island."
A resolution to be forwarded to the Ministry and M.P.'s read:— "That this meeting cf representatives of practically all Chambers of Commeroe in the North Island desires to call the attention -Of the Government to the injustice suffered in the North Island for years past in the matter of railway expenditure, and strongly urges a more vigorous policy of railway construction in the North Island.
