London, September 20. Miss Matilda Stanley, once organist at Hatfield House (Herts.), the seat of the Marquis of Salisbury, has been sentenced at the Old Bailey to six months' imprisonment for publishing pamphlets alleging that Lady • Gwendoline Cecil had had a baby to the Rev. J. "Edwards, the late Lord .Salisbury's chaplain. The judge, in passing sentence, remarked that the accusation was most malicious, and perfectly groundless, and the libel amounted almost to blackmail. A Berlin company has secured the •contract for five hundred London motor omnibuses, at a cost of £325,000. Buenos Ayres, September 20. The Argentine Republic will expend «4 milfews sterling on land forts and floating batteries, and in strengthening her fleet unless the other Republics limit their armaments.
