THE MARSDEN ELECTION.
(To the A Editor.) Sib,— Just now the coming election in Marsden is exciting a considerable amount of interest to the electors, and one would fancy by the general tone of their opinions that they desire a change of the representative. Surely this cannot be? With apolitic&llyold and tried representative like Mr Thompson are they not satisfied ? Or has he abused their confidence since la&t election ? The latter seems more j explicable, and many electors are now endeavouring to induce some candidate to come forward and contest the seat with that formidable Government supporter, Mr R. Thompson, M.H.R. At present, the name of Mr F. Mander is whispered about, as being the likeliest candidate to undertake the task. In him we have a politically untried man. He has no record of politics to dangle before the eyes of electors and to a certain extent is at a disadvantage. But he is built of the material from which good sound politicans are moulded. As a farmer for some years, and now a large employer of labour Mr Mander has always shown sound principles in all his transactions. If we can induce Mr Mander to declare himself a candidate, we may rest assured that in him we have a man who has the farmers interest at heart, with unblemished career, a man who would always strive to do what is just, and in a word not only would he take an interest in one particular electorate but in the affairs affecting the whole colony. Another certainty we may depend on is, that he would always record his vote (whether right or wrong in our judgment) unlike some members who are mysteriously absent when the divisions on particular questions are taken. — I am, etc. An Elector.
