THE NGUNGURU COAL MINE.
This Mine is shut down owing to a dead- | lock between the shareholders. Mr Tancard, who furnished the capital to open and develop the mme — some £5000, we believe— recently objected to provide further funds and required that the property should be floated into a Company. A difficulty then arose as to terms and the defining of interests, with the result that neither side will give way and the mine is closed. This is very unfortunate as everything was in splendid working order, the coal was in good demand and a small steamer built for the trade has just been launched. Referriug to this boat, the Star says :— " A handsome little yacht-like craft is now ying alongside the Hobson-street Wharf and is attracting a great deal of attention and admiration. She is the Ngunguru, a smart wooden steamer of some 50 tons register, which was launched a couple of weeks ago from Mr W. Holmes' shipbuilding: yards at the North Shore. She is now at the Hobsonstieet Wharf for the purpose of having her fitting up completed, and it is expected that she will be ready for service in a fortnight's time. The steamer was built for a special trade, that between Auckland and Ngunguru, the xecent development and increased output of the coal working in the former district having induced several local gentlemen to have a vessel constructed for the conveyance of the coal to town. The Ngunguru will have a carrying capacity of some 60 tons. Her steaming power will be supplied by the engines of the steamer Euby, which was wrecked at Mangawai some months ago. Captain H. Douglas owner, and until recently commander of the topsail schooner Clansman, takes charge of the new vessel.
