WHANANAKI.
Things are much the same as usual just now, except thufc sheep shearing is going on to some extent. The frequent showers lately have done tho grass and crops much good, everything is beautifully green in&tead of being burnt up as would have been the case had the rain not cotae. The scow Irene has made several trips lately with logs, and she is expected uext week for a load of kauri timber. Mr Morris, the Kauri Timber Coy's storekeeper has now settled amongst us having brought his wife and family from Auckland. The new mail contract begins next year for which residents here are thankful. Letters will go from Whananaki to Auckland in about three days instead of eight days as now, and letters leaving Auckland on Friday will reach here on Saturday instead of Suuday or Monday. Deep sympathy is felt in this district for the relatives of young Mr McKenzie of Okaihau, who was killed by a kick from a horee. His brother, Mr R. J. McKenzie is well known and respected here. — (Correspondent).
