SCAB IN SHEEP.
Theincident -which is to be the cause of the Sheep Department losing the services of such an efficient officer as Inspector Elliott, points to the conclusion that *' someone has blundered," and in this case it seems to be Inspector Bayley. During the past week this official, together with Inspector Drummond, instituted proceedings against one J. B. Steedman, a farmer, for being the owner of infected sheep on his farm at Waikawau on the 18th June last. The case was heard at the Thames Police Court, before Mr H. "W. Northcroft, K.M. on Friday and Saturday last. There was another charge against the defendant, but it was agreed to hear both together. Mr Hudson Williamson, Crown Prosecutor, conducted the case on behalf of the Sheep Department, while Messrs Cotter and Stewart defended. After a superfluous amonnt of evidence had been taken, the case for the prosecution alone occupying all Friday, and amongst the witnesses for the prosecution being the infallible (?) Superintendent Bayley and Inspector Drummond, the magistrate dismissed both informations with costs, £13 14/ against Inspector Drummond. From the above statement of facts it appears that " someone has blundered again," and it appears to have been the over-officious Bayley. at wL.ose instance the proceedings were instituted.
