PARUA BAY.
(From a Correspondent. J Since my last we have had a slight reminder that this is the winter season | in the shape of heavy rain, which flooded the creeks without, however, doing much damage. Taking it altogether this has been the most genial winter we have had for many years. I notice that willows have burst into leaf much sooner than usual ; peaches too are coming into blossom, and so far look healthy. I The fall in the price of gum has diminished the receipts of the diggers here to a point far below " making tucker ; " indeed, the wonder is that anything at all can be made at this pursuit, as the place has been dug over for 30 years or so. I hear this field is honoured by the presence of the cara sposa of a prominent M.H.R. This lady, I am informed, in spite of her aristocratic belongings, can kerei kapia with the best. Tree planting is pretty well over for this season, and settlers are preparing for spring planting. There is great likelyhood of the roads, connecting our village settlement, being completed this season, which will be another progressive step, as many of the Owhiwa settlers are still in the packsaddle stage. Mr Henry Aubrey is building a handy little cutter at Pataua. I hear ho intends to run her from that river to northern ports. He deserves success for his pluck.
