FAREWELL TO MISS CLEDON.
On Tuesday evening a farewell dance was given to Miss Clendon, prior to her departure for Auckland. The dance was held in the Publis Hall. There were from 35 to 40 couples present. Dancing commenced at eight o'clock, and at 10.30 the refreshments were served to the guests. Before resuming the dance, Mr Carruth addressed those present, explaining the object of their meeting together, at the conclusion of which he presented the young lady with a handsome gold diamond bracelet as a slight token of the esteem in which she was held. Mr Clendon responded on Miss Clendon's behalf, and thanked them sincerely for the mark of respect shewn her on leaving the district. Dancing yas again indulged in, and kept up with spirit until about 1.30, when a most enjoyable evening was brought to a close by all present joining hands and singing " Auld Lauld Syne.'* Miss Clendon was deservedly veiy popular in Whangarei, and her departure is a source of much regret, possessing as she does many and varied talents, a cultured musician with a good voice, combined with an ever readiness to assist in any undertaking for the public good or amusement, she leaves a place not easily filled.
