j (trom our own Corespondent.}. The races came off on Friday, 24th, in Mr Adam's paddock, kindly lent for the occasion. The weather was all that could be desired, quite a treat from y hat we generally get on race days. There was a large assemblage on the ground. The first event was the hurdle race. Four faced the starter, but owing to some person calling out for them to stop the race was spoiled, some coining back and starting again. Coming to the first hurdle Fraud fell heavily, and the rider of Jesabil, to avoid jumping on top of him, pulled his horse on one side, and he also fell. Fraud and Jesabil fell twice leaving the grey horse to win as he liked, Jesabil second, but a protest was entered for the rider dismounting before he went to be weighed in, which was sustained. Tutawaka's Tangihua (T. Clotworthy) . . 1 T. O' Carroll's Fraud ( W. McAdams) . . 2 Maiden Plate of 1J miles. Three horses started for this race, which was well contested; but owing to some mistake in the distance, whether done for the purpose or not is unknown ; some think it was the race was spoiled. G. Clotworthy's Brown Bess (W. Cossill) 1 T. Sands' Game Boy (W. Harp) . . . . 2 W. P. Mead's Beauty (Owner) . . . . 3 Beauty carried 131bs. over weight as the race was a certainty for her. Open Sweepstake, 2 miles. Three horses started for this event. Little Nell making the running, Dandy next, Wilson riding a waiting race on Blue Peter. Coming up the turn Blue Peter gradually caught Dandy, passed Little Nell, and won with ease hard held. Blue Peter ("Wilson) 1 , Little Nell (Cossill) 2 Hack Race 1£ miles, lOst up. For this race five started. This was a well contested race, Princess and Little Nell making all the running, Beauty next; Game Boy and Cannie Lass racing! neck and neck. Coming round the last turn Game Boy went away and left Brown Boss fairly beaten. A protest was entovpd, but was not sustained. F. O'Crirroll's Princess (McArtarns) ... 1 U. Getting away to a good start, Tangihya and Cannie Lass racing well together, Fly-by-night bringing up the rear ; but the order of things were changed. Cannie Lass fell back beaten. Or. Clotworthy's Taugihua Maid (Co»ill) . . 1 Fly-by -night (F. Child) 2 Pony Bace 1J miles. Five started. This race was thought to be a gift for Little Nell. Princess, getting a bad start, was last for the first rounfl, Little Nell and Seagull running close The hist round the jockey of Princess brought her along, and when the home tu:n was reached, passed all the others, anl won hard held. The cheers and fc\outs shewed that it was a populoar wii. A protest was entered on the groundhhat the mare was too high ; but takingthe mare about half a mile to measure her on a bridge, it was found that she »as not. F. O'Carroll's Princess (J.
