THE NORTHERN STEAMSHIP COMPANY AND HIGH PARES.
Sir,— l observe in your columns that the fare has been raised between "Whangarei and Auckland on account of the desire of the Whangarei • people for a large comfortable steamer. The company to make the steamer pay are raising the fares. Headers of the home papers will obsorvo that the P. and, O. Company are putting largo splon lid steamers on the Australian trade, the finest that have ever ' traded to the Southern Hemisphere, and to make it pay they are lowering tho fares. The two companies with tho same end in \lew are taking different roads. There must be a great waste in a large fine steamer like the Wellington running all her time half empty. Query, who are tho losers by this waste ? Perhaps sorao of your readers may enlighten. — Yours, &c., A. Clodhoppeb.
