j -^LECTORS OF TITABSDEN. Gfntlehen. —My Wliangarei opponents , having lodged a technical objection to my name being retained on the Electoral Boll— an objection, which while fatal to my candidature, has been rendered so by influences that others ; had the power to control— l have no option but to retire from the contest. I do so with the_ very greatest reluctance, and it only remains for me to express to my numerous supporters my most sincere and heartfelt thanks for their many expressions of sympathy and confidence: and especially do I thank those who attended last Wednesday's meeting at Whangarei, especially to support my candidature. But for the abrupt manner in which the Chairman of that meeting vacated the chair, I should have made known my position. Though excluded for the time from public life, it will still be my aim to assist in every way possible to advance the interests of a district with which I have for so many years been identified ; perhaps on some future occasion I may have a better opportunity of placing my views before you, and, if necessary, may again seek your suffrages. In the present election I shall take no part whatever. Yours to command — t „_ _„„„ G - E - ALDEBTON. June 30, 1887. jl2 1 -piLECTORS OF MARSDEN. The development of the coal mines, the improvement of Whangarei Biver, and, especially, the railway system, demand more energetic action than has yet been taken. In general politics my watchwerd shall be : Betrenchment in departmental expenditure, rigid economy, the settlement of the people on the land, and the active encouragement of industrial pursuits. I shall address public meetings in various centures in the District within the next few weeks. I am gentlemen, Yours faithfully, ' „„ J. M. DARGAVILLE. jell tf . npO THE ELECTORS OF MARSDEN.
