The following are the provisions agreed to by the miners and the U.S. coal barons at the ; Cleveland confers ence which, brought the- great strike to an end a£ the beginning of September: 1.. Continuation of the old wage scale and working conditions '.until March 31 next. . ~.'■ 2. Creation of machinery to* avert further strikes. > ; 3. A national conference representative o£ the- entire -bituminous industry to meet in Cleveland on October 2, for the purpose of the appointment of a committee of operators and miliars to formulate methods to be followed in the negotiations of a. wage scalo to become effective April 1, 1923. 4. The selection of a comniit/.ee of inquiry to investigate the coal industry hi,all its phases, , TJh'e committee to be appointed at tile ference.. October 2, imd to be approved by the President-of the United Spates. 5. The above committee to submit its report to a joint conference of operators and miners (.6 be-held January 3 t 1923, at a place to be selected.
