TIMBER WORKERS.

Mr. R. C. Lalor writes under date September 16:— Under the auspices of the Ohutu and district, members of the K.C.T.W. Union, the grand, plain and fancy dress ball held in the Uliku Town Hall was a brilliant success. The night was line and the hall thronged with smiling, merry faces. There were all styles of fancy costumes, and the hall was most suitably decorated. Hunter, National Secretary 1 of the Timbers Workers' Federation, copies of the report of the I annual conference have been received. '.Many remits contained therein ate valuable to hie interests of the limber workers. It is interesting to note that many of them are nearly identical with those discussed at Ihe Ohakunc conference. Strong branches of the New Zealand Labor Party were formed at Ohutu, Taihapt, and Torero last week. Mr. W. T. Ashton was convenor of the first meeting, and after the main planks of the platform were discussed, committees were formed. Mr. D. McCorkindale occupied the chair, and W. T. Ashton and R. C. Lalor were appointed secretary and treasurer respectively. Two other branches will be opened in a few days at Utiku and Box Bush Camp. Committees are to be set up at every mill and village. The Labor candidate is assured of a rosy chance of gaining the Rangitikei seat. The president of the Union, Mr. W. T. Dengate, is working with untiring energy in the Manunui district. Delegates Mcßride, Neary, Sewell, and Smout have also secured splendid results.
