I■; . . . « — \■' : By ENGINE-DRiVER. "Liberalism is opportune but is dead."The other night I went to a-Liberal meeting, called for the purpose of form- ' ing a branch of the League. Ob, what 1 irony. It reminded mc of trying to I bring a corpse to life-which had been dead for years. 1 was there as an opportunist, as I thought- it advisable, according to the hour which the clock had struck in regard to peoples' minds, to uphold Liberalism. But what lack of enthusiasm' on my part! I sat speechless, stAtue-like, all through .the Several speakers got up,,but each was like a ghost fipeaking'out of the depths of gloom of that which once had lifo but hod long since departed. I conld have cried but" in my forlornnoss against their stupidity for stijl believing a corpse could give forth life and victory.
