THE GENERAL STRIKE IN NEW ZEALAND. jast" Nov ember the newspapers published short notices of a waterside trorkcrs' strike which, commencing at the capital (Wellington) spread successively to the other ports. At Auckland, which has greater traffic than the capital, it culminated in a general strike. We wrote at once to ask for a report on the matter. Tlie mail, so long in transit, brought us no answer; for tfhis reason, that tho comrade in Auckland to whom we sent had been arrest«d at the beginning of the strike, and in still in prison. The account we publish below is that which the "Times" received from its New Zealand correspondent. It is very defective. However, he gives the essential facts and allows us to follow tho course of events. Here it is, with its Readings and sub-heading:
