By.R,.„A. #IMP£pNV,SCTreiary..,

Tho special meeting held on 23rd inst., proved a. great night, tho event of tho year; fully 50 members being p.resent. I stated tho reason for calling same, and a general discussion took place on tho "Social" movement, with tho ultimate result that it was unanimously decided to hald same on July 2Dth at St. Peter's School-room, qt popular prices, viz., Ladies, Is.; Gents., 25.; Double, 3s. Also please note that the following resolution was car/ied without dissent, and will bo rigidly enforced as per rulo 9: "That a levy of 2s. 6d. bo levied against all members failing to purchase a ticket for tlie for the social.''' Needless to state that it ; should bo unnecessary to pass tho above should all members remember the word, (Loyalty.!) ; . f . -/ „ ''-■; '.-, ~> I had -the honour ; . of, bring, gra.nted \l4 hours' leave at' the special meeting, but unfortunately I could not manage at the last minute to brak away frotn my work. Oh, yes, members will say, heard that yarn before! But it's true, I am social mad at present, so be i ready with non-offending applications 1 for tickets by the score. Had a letter this morning from Camrade Parry—2l branches throughout the North Island, and things aro only middling. Union secretaries in other centres so busy scratching paper and pimples off their top-notekos, that not much time for assisting organising tho unemployed unionists. Well] let us ' livo in hope • that tho July Conference will stimulate them to greater ideals. s, -Sorry te say, feel disposed to write a leaflet on the duties of union secretaries and their work and office hours: this menu is likely to bite on': . . Morning—ll.4s a.m., open office, 12.15 noon, adjourn for lunch. 4.15, p.m., return to office. 5 p.m., close up for the day. (All join in the chorus, "And our day's work is done I" ■ ■ ...... . - ■ • I am once again referring to social; told you will be sending .tickets to all members, and you are all invited to partake of the great pleasure of selling tickets. (God help you if you return any). Motto: Blessed is the man that selleth all his tickets.

I do hope the "other unions will rally round and give us some encouragement to push ■ forward. tho . unionist cause, especially being pur first instalment iv the way of socials. Do something to encourage.'the young blood to,quicken the footsteps of the weary and cautious stepping forward of the storemen generally Rosser, Auckland, said.something about storemen sitting on tho fence; - well, I only hopo 6ome barb wire is stuck on tho fence, and I reckon' it won't bo long before they arc shifting- . ." "-" : '-''- ' ' I am still waiting patiently to hear that while I am writing "Weekly Notes," tlio demand) for "Tho Work.or" is so great that..i,t is., necessary to put in extra.machinery. (Unionists, wake,up,.and don't disturb the secretaries in the' movement!)
