ROXBURGH GOLF TOURNAMENT

MEN’S GOLF The men’s tournament commenced on Friday with a Bogey match and unfortunately heavy rain was falling necessitating the postponement of golf in the afternoon. However on Saturday the weather was kind and ideal conditions prevailed over the remainder of the tournament. There was a record number of entries no less than 102 playing on Saturday. The Senior championship again went to Mr B. V. Wright with two good cards, 72—75—147—this was an excellent performance since Mr Wright has not played any golf lor nearly five months. in the Junior Championship a young local player, P. A. de Lautour, handed in two good cards, 90 —84 —174. Four players tied in the Junior 2nd Medal match with a net score of 65 and since D. McKiught and P. de Lautour had won other events the match was given to R. Currie and D. McArthur. At the conclusion of play on Saturday afternoon the Club President, Mr Win. Johnstone, presented the trophies to the winners of the various events after which he expressed the thanks of the Club to the visitors for their simnort.Once again they had made the tournament more successful than the last and the Club were very grateful indeed for their support. He made particular mention of the number of plavers from the St. Clair Club who were over thirty ■ trong. He trusted that they had all enjoyed themselves and that when the tournament came round again they would be back in full force. He then called u”ou Mr Walter Strang to make the presentation of the Walter Strang Cup to Mr Brian Anderson the winner of the Stableford Bogey. Mr D. C. Bennie, of Dunedin, replied on behalf of the visitors expresing appreciation of the excellent tournament that had just been concluded—he thought that everyone would be back. The tournament had been run in a capable manner and be was sure that each and everyone had had a pleasant time. He made special mention of thanks to the ladies who had provided enjoyable refreshments throughout the tournament. Ist Medal Round Senior. 45 Entries.
