Motor Accidents
PLUNGED INTO RIVER At 3 o’clock on Saturday afternoon a Vauxall car driven by Mr James Souness with Mr N. A. Mitchell (All Black) as passenger went into the river at a spot three quarters of a mile from the Millers Flat bridge on the main highway near to the residence of Mrs Geo. Bennet. The car fell into 12 feet of water and the occupants had a very narrow escape from drowning. Luckily the car was fitted with a sliding roof and both men were able to escape and swim to the river side. At the present time the car is lying under 7 or 8 feet of water. The accident was attributed to the bursting of a rear tyre. CAR OVERTURNS On Saturday afternoon a Buick car owned and driven by Mr Ardell, of Pembroke, overturned on the main highway opposite the property of Mr W. Bain, Dumbarton. None of the occupants were injured although the car turned three times. A burst rear tyre was also the cause of this accident.
