EMPLOYMENT ACT
False Statement Made. RELIEF WORKER FINED Andrey Hannah, a relief worker, appeared before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., in the City Police Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to having made a false statement under the Employment Promotion Act for the purpose of obtaining a benefit. Chief Detective Young, outlining the charge, stated that Hannah, in making a declaration for the period ended on July 10, had omitted to disclose that his wife had earned £9 13s during that time and he had thus received £1 17s to which he was not entitled. The defendant, who was 48 years of age, was a good worker, and was anxious to obtain regular employment.
The magistrate imposed a fine of £2 10s and costs (10s).
