SIR JAMES PARR RETAINS HIGH COMMISSIONERSHIP.
The 'Premier announced to-day that Sir James Parr had consented to continue a s High Commissioner for a further twelve months. :
The trustees of the Melbourne National Gallery have recommended its art adviser in London to buy the Rembrandt painting, ‘The Two Philosophers,” for £21,000 in Australian currency. This picture was only recently discovered, and is regarded as a beautiful work. Amongst the many visitors to Bruce woollen mills on visits of inspection of Milton’s main industry was Dr Oliver, of Galashiels, Scotland, who visited the Mills on Thursday morning (says the Herald). Dr Oliver is doctor of science asd ex-principal and professor of textile technology of the Scottish Woollen Technical College, Galashiels. Dr Oliver, who is accompanied by Mrs Oliver, is at present enjoying a tour of New Zealand, and combining business with pleasure in visiting all the woollen mills in the dominion. They loft for Invercargill that night, and on the completion of the New Zealand visit proceed to Australia on a similar mission. During his tour Dr Oliver is meeting a number of his former pupils who arc now holding prominent positions in the Dominion's woollen mills.
