ROXBURGH DISTRICT SOLDIERS’ REUNION.

The annual reunion of the district returned soldiers was held in Roxburgh on Saturday evening last and proved' one of the most enjoyable functions yet held by the returned men of the district. Mr A. E. Alexander (President of the local committee) presided over an attendance of about sixty, which included (representatives from the Dunedin, Gore, West Otago, and Alexandra Associations. A representative of the Roxburgh Municipal Silver Hand was also present and the Borough of Roxburgh was represented by his Worship the Mayor (Mr F, A. Lakdi). The usual toasts for such a .reunion were all very enthusiastically honoured. The roll call saw every “digger” rise to his feet and announce Ins regimental number and the unit he served with.

At 10 p.m. a first-class meal wits served and this piping hot meal was voted the best yet put on at the local reunions. The returned men of the district are greatly indebted to Mrs R. F. White who spared no effort in putting on this special feed at the smoke-oh. Another enjoyable feature of the evening was the hot coffee provided by Dr Gilmour and the coffee urn got a great run as lias been the ease at the past few functions. Musical items were provided during the evening by Messrs Dumblcton. A. E. Alexander, A. R. Alexander, W Shelton, R. Sharpe, P. Andersen, 11. Patterson, J. McNish, and' A. J, Gordon, while Mr L. W. A. Miller proved a very efficient pianist. Although a very successful function the attendance of local returned men was m. 4 near as large as was expected, and it is hard to say what the reason can be that the local men cannot see their way clear to be present at a local reunion.
