BARREL OF GOLD
A ban'el of yob! reputed to have been buried by English troops in the fifteenth century is being dug for by the inhabitants of (Jlissoles near Evreux, in France) which was once the site of an Englis’ stronghold in the old French wars. According to ancient documents, the gold was intended to pay the English troops, but was buried by the invaders when they had to retreat before the advance of Robert de Flocjues and the French forces in 1449. Outside Glissoles there was a Norman castle, which was strongly garrisoned by the English and held out for some time against the French onslaughts. Finally, the stronghold had to be evacuated, but the gold was considered too heavy to carry away and was buried for safety, according to tradition.
Now water-diviners have declared that they have found a spot where there is buried metal, bat so far the fabled gold has not been unearthed.
