TESTING WAS WEDDINGS.

WILL THEY PROVE SUCCESFUL. The testing time of the war weddings has come says a writer in a London paper. The romance is over, the daily fear past, and everyday troubles ahead. Soon our captains and liautenants will become ordinary civilians. In many cases the problem is intensified because the war brides have taken up well-paid war work.- Although married they have been independent women. It will be a trial to them to give up interesting work, make a home, and be dependent on the small income of a man making either a business start or a re-start. Besides, the army has led officers into a more expensive way of life. They will now have to reeonsile firstclass tastes with a third-class income. I have no fear for the genuine love matches. Devoted couples will face anything together. The brave young folk will pull through. But. I am dubious about many of the hasty weddings—when the girl was drawn by the glamour of a uniform and the man merely because he had met an attractive girl and could marry her without the slightest feeling of responisibility. It is possible that the girl may find her war hero a very ordinary person. And often a man after his marriage has as an officer met women of different social grade and' has been able to make comparisons. He will want more than mere prettiness from his wife and it is very possible he may be disappointed. Then there are the many who have been fascinated by the army life. Judging by my own acquaintances, many young officers' one dread is being demobilised. They like the army life and wish to stay in the service. Yet how can the married among them maintain wives and families on their ordinary pay without war allowances ?
