ROXBURGH.

On Friday the Roxburgh school broke up " for the annual vacation. The day was most disagreable, heavy rain fulling almost continuously throughout the afternoQn, thus making it unpleasant for parents and their children, consequently there was not a large gathering of the former. The Rev. Mason presented the prizes won Ijy the infants ami .Stds. 1 and 11., and th Rev. Abbey presented thoie won by the pupils in the upper standards. Both these gentlemen gave nice addresses to the children, advising them to try for higher positions than merely winning prizes at school. There were high positions in the land *vhic,n they felt sure the ,pupils at this school, with diligence and perseverence, would be able to fill with honour. The speakers illustrated their addresses with interesting anecdotes, and concluded by wishing the pupils a Very enjoyable holiday. During the afternoon the pdpils under the direction of their teachers, rendered several rounds, and recitations, which were much appreciated by the parents. A display of (drawing and writing, the work of the pupils, was made on the walls, among which there was some very good work indeed. Mr A. Anderson acted as judge of the writing and bis task was by no means an easy one. In the absence of Mr Motrin (Chairman of Committee), Mr Rattray (secretary) announced the holidays given, at the same time congratulating the staff on the excellence of the wotk done during theand wishing them and the pupils a happy vacation.
