Bulls

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Last Monday afternoon the committee and mothers of the Bulls Plunket Society held an afternoon to farewell Miss Mason, the Plunket nurse, who is leaving at the end of the mouth. In presenting Miss Mason with a posy and a dressing case, the president, Mrs. Milton Broonie, wished her every happiness and success in her new position. Miss Mason had been guide, philosopher and friend to practically everyone present and it was with real regret that they had gathered to say goodbye. Miss Mason, in returning thanks, said she, too, was very sorry to be leaving for she had always been very happy working in their midst but as it was promotion, she had to move on. She thanked the mothers and committee for the willing and ready cooperation she had always been accorded. “Unique in a country school and equal to the best to be found in a city school,” was the comment of Mrs. Milton Brookie when, on behalf of the Queen Carnival Committee, she thanked the children of the Parewanui School and the headmaster (Mr. Abraham) for the outstanding concert they presented in Apa House, Parawanui, as their contribution to “Miss Rangitikei.” Choral recitations, part singing, play acting and numerous other items were presented in a polished manner and delighted the audience. The outstanding performers in the plays presented were Maurice Ellery as the dragon and Maurice Brooide as the king. In the junior play Dell Homes and Rex Warbrick performed with credit. Other items given were, Mrs. Brookie (songs) and Mr. Abraham (violin solos). Mrs. Abraham officiated at the piano. During the evening a presentation was made to the infant mistress, Miss Lederer, who is to teach next year at Levin. Beth Homes made the presentation on behalf of the senior pupils and Elizabeth Ellery on behalf of the younger pupils. Mr. Abraham said it was the regret of everyone that Miss Lederer was leaving and on their behalf wished her every success in her nqw appointment. The children were

served with ice cream and soft drinks and after supper the remainder of the evening was spent in dancing. Mr. J. H. Russell presided over Messrs N. Hill,, R. W. Amon, B. J. Frecklington, T. O. Wilson, John Tricker, F. Richardson, J. A. McDonnell, D. W. Wilson and K. Bailey at a meeting of the Rangitikei Racing Club Committee. The following new members were elected: Messrs M. J. Walters, Rex Barr, 11. C. Manguson, Charlie Levin, O. A. Collis, L. J. Thomson, W. A. Thomson and Meta Warbrick. Mr. J. H. Russell referred to the retirement of Mr. R. Mackay as secretary, mentioning that Mr. Mackay had accepted the position temporarily so as to prevent the secretaryship from going out of town. As a result Mr. Mackay had rendered another service to the dun and the tnanks of all its supporters were due to him. The committeemen present endorsed the chairman’s remains unanimously. Mr. Russell said that it was with pleasure he noted the excellent nominations for the forthcoming meeting. With nominations of 193 he felt sure that the meeting would be successful.
