West End Guides Entertain

The West End Girl Guide Company presented a concert in the Little Theatre on Tue. c r evening to an appreciative audience, there being a full and varied rogramme. In tne course of the evening, bouquets were presented by Mrs. L. Crane, the captain, who organised the entertainment, to the Commissioner (Mrs. E. W. Mills), the pianiste, Miss B. York, and to the company lieutenant, Miss K. Collins. Farewell gifts were presented by Mrs. A. E. Stafford, District Captain, to Mrs. Crane, Miss P. Hoplcirk (Ranger) and Miss R. Collins, who are all leaving the district, and closing their association with the company. The following was the programme: Opening numbers by the company, Ranger and Brownies; prologue, Gillian Cole and Avis Collins; piano solo, Ngaire Woodley; tap dance, Joy Cranfield; recitation, Margaret Hay; songs, company; operatic dance, Fay Field; recitation, Fay Davis; songs, Marpn Finn and Beryl Fry; tap dance, Maren Finn; Brownio items, Brownie pack; .camp fire songs by Guides and Rangers; j piano solo, Avis Collins; song, Joy ana Dawn Tawharu; tap dance, Patricia Scott; song, Doreen Finn; “ making a cake,” Juno Smith and Shirley Crane; piano solo, Beverly York; song, Maren Finn and Beryl Fry; recitation, Maureen Wilton; sword drill, June Smith, Margaret Batchelor, Patricia Rout, Carol Sheldrake, irley Crane ana Rona Collins; June Smith and Margaret Batchelor; play, Ranger's; songs, Company.

Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Shannon, of Newbury, recently visited Hawera for the show where Mr. Shannon judged the pony classes and Mrs. Shannon the fancy work.

Mrs. L. W. Crane, of Savage Crescent, is to leave Palmerston North shortly to join her husband in Wellington, where they will reside in future. Mr. and Mrs. Crane have taken a practical interest in the Scouting and Guiding movements in Palmerston North over the past two years, Mr. Crane being Assistant-County Commissioner at the time of his departure, while Mrs. Crane is captain of the West End Nos. I and 2 Girl Guide Companies.
